Motorsport Skills Training

Skills Training Enterprise Franklin in association with the Ministry of Social Development's Enterprising Communities Fund approached Manukau Instuitute of Technology (MIT) in 2006 about providing a remote campus for students in motorsport.

As a result, in February 2007, the first "Racequal" programme started with 32 students. This is a Level 2 Certificate in Motorsport and targets young people who want to train in the motorsport industry.

The point of difference for this programme is its "hands-on" approach, with the students split imot 8 teams, and they build their own car from scratch, then having fun on part of the Pukekohe raceway at the end of the year's course.

One name becoming famous in the motorsport industry is Shane Van Gisbergen who is now racing V8Supercars, and credits his time on the programme to giving him a better awareness of the need for team spirit as a driver.

More plans are underway to possible extend the programme - Watch this space!!
